Moorestown, NJ. (May 5, 2012) — The 1st Annual Billy Walker Jr. Foundation Social took place on Saturday evening at The Lenola Fireman’s Memorial Hall in Moorestown N.J. Nearly 350 people attended the event to raise funds in support of the foundation mission and to honor the legacy of Billy Walker Jr. The event raised funds that will be used to send young adults to train for careers in Police, Fire and EMS.
Event coordinator and foundation trustee, Carolyn Keen, stated the event exceeded expectations of the board of trustees. “We are extremely grateful for the amazing support of those who made this event possible and for the love and generosity of all those who attended.” The event featured great food, music, dancing and prizes. DJ Tony Q kept the dance floor full playing a great mix of music from the past and present.
The highlight of the evening was a ceremony awarding the first educational grant from The Billy Walker Jr. Foundation. Mark Maloney, a student from Camden County College and a 5-year volunteer firefighter in Berlin NJ, received a grant to attend training as an Emergency Medical Technician. Mark has had long-time aspirations of becoming a policeman and to continue to serve his community as a firefighter. “We look forward to watching Mark complete his training and fulfilling his dream of becoming a professional first responder. Mark is an exceptional young man with a passion for serving his community” stated Bill Walker Sr., founding trustee and father of the late Billy Walker Jr.
