Moorestown, NJ. (May 5, 2012) — The Billy Walker Jr. Foundation, a newly established non-profit of Cherry Hill, N.J., awarded its first education grant at the inaugural foundation social held this past Saturday at the Lenola Memorial Fireman’s Hall in Moorestown, NJ.  The foundation was created by family and friends of 21-year-old Billy Walker Jr., Fire Fighter/EMT, who passed away on May 30, 2011. The mission of the organization is to support men and women who hope to become first responders through donations that will go toward enrollment fees, tuition and training supplies.

The recipient of the education grant, Mark Maloney of Berlin, NJ, is a student at Camden County College and works as a security officer at Virtua Hospital in Vorhees, NJ.  Mark has aspired to become a first responder for many years and had been working hard towards saving money for courses to help reach his dream.  He has been a volunteer firefighter in Berlin, NJ at station 21-1 for the past 5 years and has become a respected member in the company.  When he’s not working, studying and volunteering as a firefighter, Mark spends time as an assistant wrestling coach at Haddon Twp High School.

The Billy Walker Jr. Foundation board of trustees selected Mark as its first grant recipient for his long-time commitment to serving his community as a first responder. “We look forward to watching Mark complete his training and fulfilling his desire to become an Emergency Medical Technician.  Mark is an exceptional young man with a passion for serving his community” stated Bill Walker Sr., founding trustee and father of the late Billy Walker Jr.  “We would like to thank the many individuals and organizations that helped us begin our journey of supporting aspiring first responders and inspiring community involvement,” added Mr. Walker.
